REAL Snow post

READ THIS IN ORDER DO NOT LOOK AT THE PICTURE FIRST!!!
This post actually has some text!
When I got up this morning, Danny and Noah were already outside. (this was around 9:30) I eventually got out, and there was a half-inch of ice covering EVERYTHING. That made it fun to just walk around, because the ice would break up into big chunks that we could break over each other's heads without getting (very) hurt.
The ice wasn't very good for sledding, though. It made it really bumpy, and it popped our sledding tube.

This is completely off-topic from the post title, but it's funny.
One of my dad's coworkers named Doug saw this website of a company they have to work with next year, and challenged me to write something even less clear:
link to website: http://www.pollinatemedia.com/Services.aspx

My attempt to beat his challenge:

And this is what he wrote after seeing it:

Wow!

I give this work high marks with the following comments:

1. I had to read it 5-6 times and I still have no clue what Synergy is selling. Perfect.
2. I had to reach for my Webster’s (that’s a printed dictionary, young Peter) for “Efficacious” and still came away effectively confused.
3. After my 5-6 readings I still wondered “Was that one insanely long sentence?” It wasn’t, but it felt like it.
4. The graphic looks like a Doom III player in the fetal position.

You have to work hard to be that confusing. I like it. And it totally blows away the work by the web guys- Maybe they’ll hire you!

Doug, eschewing obfuscation as always

Oops...

Earlier today I was in Beaverton filming one of the village lego robotics teams with Ryan, Jevon, and Ben. This post is about the ride home. I took the MAX from Beaverton as usual, but I didn't realize it was a yellow line train. Blue line and red line both go to my stop, but yellow line turns off too early. At around 5:00 I got to the Rose Garden Transit Center, which is where yellow line turns off. A few minutes later I realized what happened and got off at the next stop to wait for another train going the other way, but the sign thingy that tells you how long it is till the next train is said it was about half an hour. The rose garden stop is right by that big 'Rise with Us' blazers poster, and I thought I could see the tower things it's on only about 5 city blocks away. I decided to run to it. Once I was about 500 feet away I realized that the tower things with the poster were different ones about 5 MORE city blocks away. I eventually got to the stop where I had to wait 5 more minutes for a train, then got home.

Carl

The name Carl, manga people in general, and apparently well-dressed magna people annoy Gabe. So I drew this and colored it in photoshop. Please vote and comment. And click on the picture so you can see it full-size, it's better.

Jevon

Jevon will have to reinstate our blogging again, as it has come to a complete stop for about a week. This means it will probably continue that way until he intervenes. Comment on this if you read it.

Camping

Noah's boy scout troop had a family camping thing for last weekend and I was bored so I decided to go. Danny, Regina, Noah, and my dad also came. It was about 45 minutes from our house.

We got three Friday night at around 8:00. It was completely dark and it was raining. We were the 3rd or 4th group to arrive. Noah had one flashlight which my dad and I used to set up a 3 person tent. Noah and Danny wanted to sleep with a bunch of scouts Noah's age in a little cabin thing that was at the campsite. After getting everything set up and getting all our food and stuff to the tent, we went over to a campfire that someone had built. I forget the rest of what happened that night except for reading some of Brisingr.

I woke up at around 10:00 and had cereal for breakfast. Everyone there went on a short hike around a lake that was by the campsite. When we got back Noah started talking about Runescape with a few other scouts and didn't stop until we left. Thanks Ryan. For lunch I had a turkey sandwich and fritos. Danny started whining that he wanted to go home as soon as he finished lunch. This was very annoying combined with Noah constantly talking about rs, so I borrowed someone's pocketknife and made a stick really sharp. This eventually got annoying also, because the knife was dull. At around 2:00, somebody set up a game called montana golf. You play be throwing two golf balls tied together with a string about 2 ft. long at a pvc pipe structure. The pipe is just a stand with 3 bars, the top being worth 3 points, the middle 2, and the bottom 1.

This was not as boring as carving sticks, but it still had the annoying aspect of Danny and Noah arguing over which color golf balls they got. Danny was still whining about wanting to go home the whole time. At around 4:00 my dad took Danny home and arrived back and hour and a half later. I spent the time until 7:00 playing montana golf with Noah and other scouts and carving sticks. If I made them sharp enough they would stick in trees and hold which was fun to do because Noah couldn't make a stick sharp enough to do that. I accidentally cut myself with one of the sharper sticks, though, and Noah found this funny enough that he stopped being annoyed at not being able to shove his into trees.

Dinner was a giant potluck and was really really good. My favorite dish there was roasted potatoes with bits of bacon and a bunch of cheese melted in at the end, and my dad got the recipe for it. One of the other dads there had won a bunch of chili making contests and that was also really good. At around 8:00 2 of the older scouts played a few songs on guitars then another dad told a story about last year's family camp (I wasn't there). Apparently one of them had dropped their flashlight in one of the toilets while going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. It was still on, and he left it there till morning. Then put a plastic bag over his whole arm and reached in to grab the flashlight. I'm pretty sure this is true because a bunch of other people remembered it.

After that everybody went to one of the scout's houses just a few minutes away. Their barn had two air hockey tables, some arcade games and a few other games. There was also a wall cleared so you could play movies with a projector on it. We watched The Princess Bride, and got back to the campsite around 11:00. We left in the morning.

The San Juan Islands

Sorry this post is so late. But it is before the end of the week. My dad’s friend from work owns a house in Bellingham near the San Juan Islands. He wasn’t using it, so he let us have it for a few days.

Day One (Thursday)
We left on Thursday around 4:00. Noah brought a portable CD player so he was fighting over it with Danny the whole drive. This got annoying after a while. Fortunately I was able to grab it myself and turn it up loud enough so I couldn’t hear them arguing about who would get it after I was done. After about 2 hours we stopped at a Burger King. This kept Noah and Danny quiet for 5 or 10 minutes. We continued for 2 more hours with Noah and Danny fighting the whole time and finally reached Seattle. My dad had arranged for us to spend the night at his old high school friend’s house.

We reached the house around 8:00. Two of our friends named Tom and Dan live their. Tom is 15 and Dan is 13 but Dan was not actually there at the time so he won’t be mentioned anymore. We had been planning to have a big Starcraft game with them but about 2 hours before we got there (according to Tom), all but one of their computers crashed. I helped Tom try to repair the computers while everyone else fought over who would get to play first on the remaining computer. Around 10:00 Tom and I got the one we were working on to actually run windows again, but it wouldn’t install any updates or drivers, so all we could do was watch youtube. We eventually came downstairs and watched the last few hours of the Olympics. Throughout our time spent at his house, Tom used the expression ‘Go eat yourself.’ This is mainly because of something that happened to his toe involving a blister. If you want to hear the full story on that just tell me and I’ll put in a comment on it.

Day Two (Friday)
We woke up around 9 had pancakes for breakfast. Around 10 we walked to a park near their house and played basketball for a while. Every time I’ve played basketball with Tom and his dad I’ve gotten hit in the face with the ball. No difference this time, but I did dodge it where it would’ve hit me a second time. We walked back and left their house at about 11. My dad had also bought tickets for a tour at the boeing museum in Everett, WA, and we reached there around 1. The tour was pretty cool, but it involved a lot of walking so Gabe and Noah didn’t like it and complained a lot near the end. After the tour we drove until 5 when we reached Bellingham. We had dinner at a Mexican place in town first then went to the house.

Whenever we go to a hotel or cabin or something there is always a fight over who gets what bed. Luckily for me, I ended up in the top bunk of one bed and only had to sleep by Danny once. There were 3 kayaks in the house so me and Noah and Danny took them down to the beach. You didn’t strap yourself into the kind that was there; you sat on top. Noah and Gabe liked that very much because they were both afraid of being strapped in, flipping over, and drowning. XD We rammed each other for a while until Regina and Gabe came down and wanted a turn. There was a little island about 2 miles away and one of us (I’m not sure who) decided that we would all try to get to it in the kayaks. I eventually got to bed around 10.

Day 3 (Saturday)
I woke up at about 10 (am). Regina, mom, and Gabe had decided they were going to get to the island first. My dad was going to drive to a grocery store and buy stuff, and Noah said he was going with him. I had two choices:
1-Stay in the house with Danny
2-Go with my dad and Noah to the store and force Danny to come because there’d be nobody left to watch him.
I was with Danny either way, but the store had food so I opted to go there.

We reached the store about half an hour later. The first item we all agreed on that we needed to was a 24 can box of Dr. Pepper. We walked around for about an hour and picked many other things. There were different brands of soda scattered through the whole store and Danny and Noah kept asking for them. Just before we left my dad was picking a bottle of wine. I pointed one out because I liked the logo on it. He decided to try it, and later once my mom and him had tried it they both thought it was really good for the price.

When we got back we discovered that Regina, Gabe and my mom had not reached the island and turned back before they got there. Danny and Noah decided that I was coming with them and we would be first to get to it. 15 minutes later we were at the beach and ready to go. I put a rope in my kayak in case we needed it for some reason, and Noah put water in it. I soon discovered that Danny and Noah like taking water breaks, so we stopped every 15 minutes. They also kept arguing about who was bumping who whenever one of them accidentally drifted into the other. We reached the island after about an hour and 15 minutes. After messing around for a bit they both decided they were too tired and wanted to me to tow them both the whole way back! I’d brought the rope in case I needed to tow one of them for maybe a forth of the way so their demand was a bit annoying. While they sat there I made sure the rope was tied around both of their kayaks.

It took about an hour and a half to tow them back, but they kept declaring they were too tired if I asked them to row. When we got back I let them put the stuff away and ate lunch. After lunch I discovered that the current wiring for the DVD player and TV didn’t work. I tried different things for about an hour and have concluded that the TV there doesn’t receive any input. There was a good speaker system though, so I put some music on the upstairs speakers and took a comic book up there. Gabe and Noah soon followed me up. I went downstairs to get a Dr. Pepper and Noah followed me the whole way. As you can imagine, this gets annoying. Noah tends to do it a lot no matter where we are. I had to sleep with Danny that night, but he was already asleep. =D

Day 4 (Sunday)
When I woke up I immediately noticed that my arms were really sore from pulling Danny and Noah the 2 miles back from the island. None of us really did anything that day. Danny and Noah used they kayaks a little, but that was it. I slept through most of it. Nothing interesting happened.

Day 5 (Monday)
We got up early and drove to where a fairy was leaving for the San Juan Islands. If we’d left 2 minutes later we would’ve missed the fairy and had to do stuff for 2 hours. But we made the one we were planning on. There were snack and soda machines on each end of it, and Noah kept whining that he should get one. I decided to buy one just to annoy him, but the machine wouldn’t accept my many no matter how much I flattened it out. This made Noah very happy. It took about an hour to reach the largest island which is called San Juan Island.

We had lunch at a little restaurant then drove to the other side of the island in a rented van and sat there hoping a whale would pop up. This got boring after about 15 minutes, but it was fun to watch the periodical groups of kayakers clumsily paddling by. I forget how we filled the rest of that day, but at 3:30 we were back at the dock thing where we got off the original fairy. The next one was at 4:00 so we got some ice cream. The flavor I picked was Espresso Fudge Pie, which I’m sure Ben would like. We got back to the house around 8. That night Danny and Noah had to sleep in the same bed, but Danny wasn’t asleep by the time Noah got there. They were still awake and arguing over who had bumped who and who was taking all the covers when I got into the top bunk. It was hard to get to sleep that night,

Day 6 (Tuesday)
We drove back to Portland today. It’s not very fun to spend 6 hours in the back seat with Danny and Noah, but the batteries of the CD player had died so they couldn’t argue about that. We got back around 3.

Jevon

Today I was at a Mexican restaurant with Ryan and Jevon and some other people. I forget what it was called, but the food was really good and they gave you really big servings. The reason I'm posting about this is because of Jevon. (not surprising) We had just finished and Jevon went and took a handful of mints for all of us. He handed them all out, unwrapped his, then dropped it on the floor. After a few seconds he picked it up and decided to put it in his water to decontaminate it. The only problem was it didn't float, and the glass was too small for his hand to get it. Gabe told Jevon to pour his water into Gabe's glass to get the mint back so Jevon did. He missed, but there was a plate under it so the table didn't get wet. The mint was still stuck to the bottom of Jevon's glass and it wouldn't come out even when he turned it upside down and banged on it. After a few minutes he got a new mint and we left.

My Dad's Company Picnic

This post is about our short trip to Walla Walla, Washington. Noah isn’t mentioned because he was at a cub scout camp somewhere. We went there because my Dad’s company has 3 different locations in Oregon, Washington, and Utah, and they rotate who hosts the company picnic every year and my Dad wanted all of us to come.

Day One:

We left on Thursday around 3:30. We drove for 2 hours and nothing happened except for Danny falling asleep and leaning his head on me. I shoved his head off, but even though he was asleep it only took 10 seconds for him to get it back on me. This continued for most of those 2 hours. Then we stopped at a Burger King and he woke up for that. After about 1 more hour we stopped at a little town (I forget its name) by the Columbia. Danny and Regina made sand castles and splashed me, and a bunch of sand blew in my eyes. I splashed Danny back and he started whining really loud for a long time. We arrived in Pendleton after another hour, and decided to spend the night there.

It was about 8:00 when we got to the hotel in Pendleton and I got some pictures of really nice car in the parking lot. Me and Danny went swimming in the hotel’s pool for a while. As soon as Danny and I were done swimming we came back to room 272 instead of 372. Luckily nobody was there and after a few minutes I noticed the mistake. XD

I had to share a room with Gabe and Danny. This was an interesting experience. Gabe and I made a deal that he got Danny the first night and I got him the second. When me and Danny returned from the pool Gabe threw a huge pile of pillows at us. Then Danny started throwing the pillows everywhere, but mostly at me. It was around 11:00 when we got in bed and turned off all the lights. After 5 minutes Danny asked Gabe a technical question about Bionicles, which Gabe immediately answered. This led to more questions from Danny with more answers which cause even more questions. This continued for about 20 minutes until Gabe discovered that he could see static electricity in the dark by rubbing on the blankets. Danny told Gabe to try to take a picture and he did. He failed to actually get a picture of it though. After a few more Bionicle questions they were finally quiet.

4:30-I woke up and felt something wrapped around me. It was Danny. I woke him up and asked what he was doing. He said that I was warmer than Gabe, and I shoved him off.

5:30-Gabe and Danny had both woken up. One of them had opened the curtains and the sun was shining right in my face. They noticed I was awake and threw pillows at me for 5 minutes. Once they were done I went back sleep. They threw pillows at me about every 20 minutes until 8:30 when I decided to get up.

Day Two:

Technically day 2 started in the middle of the day 1 section, but it’s easier this way.

We had breakfast at a Shari’s near the hotel, then packed up and left for Walla Walla. It took a little over an hour and when we got there me and Danny and Regina swam in the pool of the hotel there for about 3 hours. We had dinner at a place called Hua’s Mongolian BBQ and it was really good. After that we saw a play called Anything Goes that was really funny. Danny wanted to back to the hotel at the intermission, but when my dad said he would buy Danny a caramel apple (which Danny really likes) he decided he could stay.

Fortunately for me, Danny was tired when we got back to the hotel around 11:00, and he fell asleep right away.

Day Three:

I had leftover Mongolian food for breakfast and everyone else went downstairs for the hotel breakfast. We left for the company picnic which started at 11:00. After eating some barbecued ribs and chicken and Doritos, there was a really big game of ultimate Frisbee, and that was the funnest part of the trip. Fortunately nobody ran into any trees or tables while looking up in the air and running. At 3:30 we started home, and Danny was asleep almost the whole time which made it more peaceful.

Near the end of the drive, my dad was working on his laptop while my mom was driving. The laptop’s battery was low, and it was being charged by a converter you can stick into the cigarette lighter in your car that turns it into a regular plug. The converter suddenly made a really loud pop and started smoking. Then the laptop turned off. When we got home, the laptop did turn back on once it was plugged into a wall outlet. When I walked in Oscar (the neighbor’s orange cat that likes sneaking into our house) was lying on the floor, and our cat was sitting on the couch looking at him. I think he’d been in there all three days.

How Much Cake is Too Much?

in this post you can discuss how much cake is too much, whether it is possible to have too much cake, or go completely randomly off topic. a starting example is when last saturday my grandma had her birthday, then on sunday my dad's friend had a birthday, then today (monday) my dad had his birthday. there was a lot of cake at all three.
